The DFRobot Gravity: MAX30102 PPG Heart Rate and Oximeter Sensor (I2C/UART) is a compact pulse oximeter sensor module for measuring heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. It is based on the Maxim MAX30102 and combines the optical sensing front end with an onboard microcontroller that processes the acquired PPG data locally. As a result, heart rate and oximetry values are provided directly, reducing the signal-processing workload on the host controller.
Data can be output via either I2C or UART, which simplifies integration into microcontroller and single-board computer platforms. The module supports 3.3 V or 5 V supply operation. According to the manufacturer, the sensor should be fixed on the finger as consistently as possible, because direct pressure on the sensing area can affect the output data. The module is intended for development, educational, and general measurement applications and is not designed as a professional medical instrument.
