The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is a compact SBC-CSI camera module for vision-based AI applications on Raspberry Pi platforms. It uses the Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor, combining a 12.3-megapixel CMOS image sensor with on-module inferencing capability. This allows visual data to be processed in real time on the camera module without requiring a separate external AI accelerator.
The module is designed for integration into the Raspberry Pi camera software ecosystem and supports common libraries such as libcamera and Picamera2. In addition to image output, the camera also supports tensor metadata output, which simplifies downstream processing for applications such as object recognition, facial detection, and image-based automation.
