Lipo battery, more specifically a lithium ion polymer battery, is a rechargeable battery that evolved from the lithium ion battery. The main difference is that instead of a liquid lithium-salt electrolyte (e.g. LiPF6) contained in an organic solvent (e.g. EC/DMC/DEC), a solid polymer electrolyte such as poly(ethylene oxide), poly(acrylonitrile), poly(methyl methacrylate) or poly(vinylidene fluoride) is used.

Good security features. The aluminum packaging is not explosive even in the event of a safety hazard.
Small thickness. The cells can be manufactured in thicknesses less than 1mm, allowing the batteries to be molded to almost any shape.
High capacity. Compared to steel case batteries of the same size, Li-polymer batteries have 10-15% higher capacity.

Lithium batteries are charged using a voltage-limited, cross-current method controlled by an IC chip. In general, a distinction is made between three methods: trickle charging, constant current charging and constant voltage charging. For example, let's take a Li-ion polymer battery with a voltage of 3.7 V, an end-of-charge voltage of 4.2 V and an end-of-discharge voltage of 3 V.

When charging, the voltage of the battery to be charged is checked first. If the voltage is below 3 V, the battery is trickle charged with a current of 1/10 of the set current. After the voltage has risen to 3V, the battery goes into normal charging. The battery is now constantly charged with the set current until the battery voltage rises to 4.2 V. The charging voltage is then kept at 4.2 V and the charging process changes to constant voltage charging. At this point, the charging current gradually decreases, and when the current drops to 1/10 of the set charging current, charging ends.
Therefore, to charge the battery, choose a charger that can charge with both constant current and constant voltage.

Normally, the discharge voltage of the polymer lithium ion battery should not be lower than 3V. If the voltage is lower than 3V and keeps discharging, it is over-discharging. In general, over-discharge will cause the internal pressure of the battery to increase, damage the reversibility of the positive and negative active materials, decompose the electrolyte, and increase the resistance. At the same time, deposition of lithium in the negative electrode limits the amount and conductivity of lithium ions deposited in the negative electrode plate. This leads to a decrease in battery capacity, an increase in internal resistance, and a shortened and unrecoverable lifespan.

The discharge current of a lithium-ion polymer battery is usually determined by its own capacity and discharge rate. Using the example of a 1200mAh Li-Polymer battery, the constant discharge current is:

At a discharge rate of 0.2C:
1200x0.2/1000=0.24A.

At a discharge rate of 1C:
1200x1/1000=1.2A.

The 0.2C and 1C used above are a measure of how quickly a battery will discharge. If a battery's capacity is discharged in 1 hour, it is called a 1C discharge. If discharged in 5 hours it is said to be a 1/5 = 0.2C discharge

Do not immerse the battery in water or seawater and store the battery in a cool, dry environment when in standby mode.
Do not short-circuit the battery by directly connecting the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals with metal objects such as wire.
Do not solder the battery directly or pierce the battery with a nail or other sharp object.
Do not use or store the battery in extremely high temperatures (e.g. in strong direct sunlight or in a vehicle in extremely hot weather). Otherwise, it may overheat, ignite, or its performance will deteriorate and its lifespan will be shortened.
Do not use the battery in places with high static electricity, otherwise the safety devices may be damaged, resulting in a dangerous situation.
Do not transport or store the battery with metal objects such as necklaces, hairpins, etc.
If the battery emits an odor, generates heat, becomes discolored or deformed, or appears abnormal in any way during use, charging, or storage, remove it from the device or charger immediately. take out and lay out in a closed container, e.g. a metal box.
